Dear Editor,
Thank you for your article "Women in the Seminary." Very encouraging.

Dear Editor,
I read with interest the article on Christian romance novels. I read a lot of
books. I look at them as treasures, taking into consideration the content of the
book, the people involved, etc. If the plot is weak, I am not interested. However,
I have learned many life lessons from fiction and have applied some of them to
my own life. I like the way many novelists weave the message of salvation into
their story, and also living the challenges of the Christian life. Two of my favourite
books are "Sophie's Heart" and "Pretense" both by Lori Wick. These books have
been read and re-read many times.
Thank you for Women Alive magazine. It is an interesting publication. I look
forward to the next issue.

Dear Editor,
Thank you! I received your magazine on Friday and appreciated what the author had to say about Christian Romance. Over the years, I have heard some negative opinions about this genre. Personally, I like it! The greatest need in the human heart is to be loved. Ultimately, only God provides true, unconditional and everlasting love but he placed in us that desire. Human love may rank a weak second to God’s but is still a natural longing. A well-written, uplifting, love story encourages us to hope for the glorious day that our flawed relationships will be replaced by the Master of true love.

Behind-The-Stories: Spring/Summer 2008 Issue
From Women Alive editor, Karen Stiller
This was a great issue to put together. As an editor, I receive many Christian new releases that book publishers hope our magazine will review. One really caught my eye recently, just because of its really unique title: Wisdom from the Middle Ages for Middle-Aged Women. I’m intrigued by women from the middle ages, and I’m confronted with middle- age! It seemed a great combination for a cover story. I tracked down the book’s author to see if she was interested in taking some of the points she makes in her book and presenting them in a 1500 word magazine article. Despite her best efforts, the result was a 4700 word article. That’s when editing challenges come in, and it’s how I’ve earned the nickname “The Slasher.” I hated to see all that good material go, but if the article intrigues you, please check out the book.
I also really enjoyed interviewing the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, a woman who came across my radar in Homemaker’s magazine. She was lovely. We hope you enjoy this issue and will gift a friend with a subscription to this ever-evolving magazine.
