Home Sweet Home

By

The last time you got together with your girlfriends, were you surrounded by the distracting atmosphere of a trendy coffee place, or were you sitting comfortably in your home? Don’t get me wrong I really enjoy those trendy coffee places especially their yummy mochas. However, when I plan to catch up with a friend and want to spend quality time, there’s no place like home.  Women are really good at talking – and we enjoy it too! We were designed to talk about our feelings, our concerns, anything on our hearts. Women are also good at listening and giving advice. When you put the two together in a comfortable private atmosphere, like our homes, true heartfelt conversations happen.

So why are the coffee places full while our homes are empty? Is it that women no longer like to talk and listen anymore?

I know times are changing and life is just so busy for the modern day woman. However one thing remains the same: hospitality happens in the home. I will be honest with you, writing this article has made me see that I too have gotten away from inviting people into my home.

After pondering the reasons why, I’ve realized that I’m a busy modern day woman who has a hard time keeping up with the house. At the same time, I am a woman of faith who wants to please God in all I do.  By showing hospitality, we are using the comfort of our homes to serve, love and worship God. We are loving our neighbours as God has asked us to do.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not to men.”

(Colossians 3:23)

I’ve given myself a personal challenge this year and I am extending it to all the busy modern day women reading this.  Simply this: that hospitality in your home will be put on the priority list. Sounds easy? Well it might require women to show humility by allowing people to see our not-so-perfect homes. The good news is there is no such thing as a perfect home. Your neighbour down the street doesn’t have it all together either.

“Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!”

(Hebrews 13:2)
